This is the original N&S Phlexicare RADAR bathroom mortice lock and handle set for disabled toilet doors.
It features a latchbolt which is operated by special RADAR key and lever handle, which are included in the kit.
A RADAR key (which stands for The Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitation), also known as an NKS key, is a blue, red or silver-coloured key that opens more than 10,000 disabled toilets across the UK. RADAR keys are used by some 400 local authorities to allow disabled people access to locked, accessible toilets, while providing protection against vandalism and misuse.
The Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitation, which is now Disability Rights UK, created the National Key Scheme (NKS) and the first RADAR locks were fitted in 1981 to help keep accessible toilets free and clean for disabled people.
Before RADAR locks were introduced, many establishments locked the accessible toilet themselves which meant that disabled people could only use the toilet on request. There were also cases where the key couldn’t be located by the staff member, or the person who had it wasn’t on duty that day. Fortunately, the introduction of the NKS meant disabled people could now use the toilet without having to ask someone if they could be let in.
In line with a number of other mortice locks, these locks feature a silver lock case but they have unique measurements that identify them from other mortice locks. Please refer to the line drawing for details.
This bathroom mortice lock is available in satin chrome finish only.
The deadlatch throws 14mm. If higher security is required, or the ability to lock the bathroom door from the outside, we’d recommend a euro case mortice lock with key and turn euro cylinder.
From the inside, the deadlatch is locked on closing the door and unlocked by the lever handle. From the outside, the deadlatch can be unlocked using a RADAR key.
This lock is supplied with a striking plate in a finish which matches the lock and a set of lever handles.
Suitable for use on most internal wooden doors. These locks are handed and the deadlatch cannot be reversed. If you are stood on the outside of the toilet and the door is hinged on the left, you need a left hand lock. If it is hinged on the right, you need a right hand lock.
